    im told its best to use dark groundbait in clear water but im also told liquidised bread and punch for clear water, confused

    The reason anglers use dark groundbait is that the fish feel safer feeding over it. Obviously the back /top of most fish is dark in colour and the fish are "camouflaged" from predators above (herons etc) They then feel more confident to feed in the clear water.

      thats what ive been led to believe jimbo61 so why is liquidised bread and punch one of the better winter baits

        ow the answer except to say that it's the best winter bait going especially on rivers and canals
        It may be because of it's attractancy and its smaller particle sizes are less likely to fill up any fish that are
        feeding,
        The 2 answers do seem to contradict one another somewhat but neither are wrong

          I think that we are talking more about methods here. For example with dark groundbait Jim is correct and the fish are mainly feeding on the bottom and are less visible to predators. Liccy is an attractor normally for catching throughout the swim and doesn't fill the fish up. Different baits for different methods.
