JAMES MAUDE ANGLING CLUB 1969 - 2019

Saturday 10th August 2019 Sherwood Fishery Holmedale (Skellydale Lake).

Weather: Strong Winds with Heavy Rains throughout the day.

James Maude V Nature

As the Typhoon season is well underway with Typhoons Lekima and Krosa hitting the Western Pacific at the moment. Our thoughts go out to the people affected by these storms.

By contrast back in good old Blighty The mighty trees of Sherwood took a pounding as the strong winds and heavy rains battered their way across the lakes of Sherwood, and as the mighty trees stood proud Holmedale or as the Maudes lads know it Skellydale paid host to the James Maude Ac lads once again, and even the horrendous conditions could not stop this great club from recording a fantastic match with some incredible backup weights.

So when you get a great club on a great complex the results can only be good.

Familiar faces appeared on the podium as the inform anglers took control of the dire conditions, with eight weights over a ton and five weights in the nineties proving the fish are well and truly feeding.

Confidence in your ability is paramount and today’s Top angler Phil Smedley has it in abundance with his paste attack at 10mtrs from peg 19 as Phil bagged top weight with 150lb-9oz. Well done Phil. One peg you would want, would be the mill pool peg that was peg 20, as strong winds battered the lads in open water the Bay of Scales was flat calm, but still storming to a second place was Gary Summerscales with some good edge fish late on taking 134lb-12oz to the scales. Well done Gary. Still pushing for that top league place is Scott Dibble finding some form once again Scott weighed 129lb-15oz from peg 28. Well done Scott. Ounces out by Scott, Pete Lambert had to settle for a section win with 129lb-14oz from peg 14. Well done Pete.

So as anglers reflect on what might have been, but at the same time feel blessed that no poles were smashed as they battled with the elements, a somewhat trivial reflection and sobering thought in many ways as those poor people in the Pacific regions cope with something a lot more sinister.

I feel the James Maudes lads had a slight edge on Nature today.

But whilst we must not get complacent here are the results:

Phil Smedley 150lb-9oz peg 19

Gary Summerscales 134lb-12oz peg 20

Scott Dibble 129lb-15oz peg 28
