    JAMES MAUDE ANGLING CLUB 1969 - 2019

Saturday 20th July 2019 Little John Lakes Friar Tuck Lake.

Weather: Overcast, strong winds, with heavy rain at times.

ITS ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN

On this day July 20th 1969 a phrase that would live on in the minds of people around the world when from a distance of 239.000 miles Neil Armstrong uttered those immortal words "THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN. ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND ". Words that would be written in the history books for generations to come.

    JULY 20th 1969
The Rolling Stones knocked Thunder Clap Newman (Something in the Air Tonight) of the top of the charts with Honkey Tonk Women.

    July 1969
Ann Jones became the first British champion at Wimbledon.
Rod Laver became men's singles champion.

Well all the above may now be stored in the channels of our minds and filed into the pages of History but as new achievements are made in the modern era we take stock of the past few days in the sporting calendar of the U.K.
England's historic rise to glory as the beat New Zealand in the cricket World Cup.

The titanic battle at Wimbledon between two tennis Giants and legends of the game as Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in 5 sets.

Lewis Hamilton took his seventh win of the Formula 1 Grand Prix season with an emphatic victory at Silverstone.

James Maude Angling club July 20th 1969 Little John Lakes set in the heart of Sherwood Forest at one of Nottinghamshire's most well manicured fishing complexes
Friar Tuck is a common character in modern Robin Hood stories, which depict him as a jovial friar and one of Robins Merry Men.
Well the Merriest Man out of the James Merry Men and one small step was Gary Summerscales with back to back wins following his win (102lb-14oz) at Holmedale, Gary took the honours from peg 21 on the Friar Tuck Lake catching on 2+3 out in front on pellet and a switch to his left hand margin on dead reds saw him weight yet another ton with 131lb-7oz gracing the scale. Well done Gary. Ian Carr fished a blinding match from peg 3 as strong winds battered the anglers making long pole impossible, Ian took control of his left hand margin taking carp on dead reds to achieve another ton weight of 121lb-8oz. Well done Ian. The Bronze Adonis following his recent vacation stormed back onto the podium, pegged on 23 Pete Lambert caught steady on the tip for most of the match racking up another ton with 102lb-1oz. Well done Pete.
So as the James Maude Men did battle with Nature once again the winner was the weather as this match could have been so different as anglers were limited by the conditions. So well done to all present as every pegged weighed in.
    The results are as follows:
    Gary Summerscales 131lb-7oz peg 21
    Ian Carr 121lb-8oz peg 3
    Pete Lambert 102lb-1oz peg 23
