  • What's the best braid out there

    Hi all,

Who has any recommendations for braid for distance feeder work? Big still-waters bream fishing.

    Cheers

A lot of my barbel fishing brethren use the Spiderwire stuff, I tried it, wasn't for me, but seems good quality stuff, no reason why it shouldn't be good for long range bream fishing.

Matrix submerge in 0.08 or 0.10.
Browning feeder braid is another excellent buy but hard to get hold of.

Do you use braid for Barbel ?
I did try a couple of them, many years ago I didn't like it @ all.
If you do can you explain any advantages you have found
I have always remained very Sceptical

I can only assume a braided mainline for barbel is to stop them diving back into snags. Personally I would never use it as I'd be worried about cutting fish. I've used it as a hooklength material in the past but only in larger diameters.

No mate I was offered some to test ,but I Declined because I didn't have the time
for Barbel I also would not use Braid as I wouldn't feel happy because I think it would damage the Fish ,my Choice has always been 6 & 8lb Maxima ,Occasionally I have stepped up to 10lb .
I can only see Braid being beneficial for throwing Mega Distances on Still waters
Even then I tend to have confidence in using Shock leader of 6lb Maxima attached to 2.5lb to 3lb Maxima for up to 2½ Oz
I also believe the Design of the feeder can give you as much as 20mtrs extra distance .
I always made my own but gave my Tapered Mandrills & all my Feeder moulds to a fella that made them for me when my Arthritis got worse
I recently found out that he passed away earlier this year & everything in his workshop was removed & disposed of by the landlord of his workshop
As he had No next of Kin .
So I may be looking for someone to make them for me again .lol

I'll put you on my mailing list for a few when I make my next batch. I've actually just recently bought some of the new guru x-change feeders with the changeable weights. Not used them yet but they look very good. Similar to the nufish zippla feeders but the weights twist off the end. There's loads of excellent feeders being made and sold by actual anglers on the circuit. There's the window type feeders and even modified drennan feederbombs being sold in shops. It's definitely a healthy scene to be involved with at the moment and the lads that fish the matches are all top drawer.
