  • #2
One of my friends used to breed sqautts, it was winter time and a guy came and bought a gallon --he took them home and his wife said where are you going to keep them-he said under the bed, she said what about the smell-- he said Oh they will get used to it..

when you buy Squatt ,they are sold in Sand .leave them in it
Leave them in a tub in the Fridge they will last ages
Don't riddle the sand off .its the only way to keep them fresh
never put maize or any type of powder on them you will kill them

I thought when you buy squatts they are already in sand....and again thought if you remove them from sand and put in maize or whatever they will float

If i was using them in GB for Bream i have removed Sand & put slices of Bread in them .over night Derek.
The Bread completely removes every last grain of Sand from the Squatt
I would remove Sand about 6pm put 2 Slices of Fresh Bread cut into 3 strips place lid tight
,I would remove that before going to bed ,& replace the Bread with Fresh replace lid put in Cool place
In the morning Squatt will be spotless .
At this time you could put a slice on again but this time soak it in milk till you get to your peg .
The original thread asked how to keep them mate & the only way is jn Sand I..M .O
