    £50,000 Maver Match This 2011
    By Terry Comerford
    http://www.terrycphotography.com

Now I‘ve been around match angling for a long time and from years of experience in fishing, watching and reporting on matches I know it takes a lot to get match anglers excited, in fact the very nature that makes up a top match angler is they feel that excitement and nerves cloud judgement and leads to poor performance, all the best match anglers have a very calm demeanour, an un-hurriedness about them that makes them succeed when others fail, this is what ultimately makes the elite of our sport stand out from the rest.

But now the big day was here, the most seasoned match angler, even the experienced internationals who had qualified to compete in this unique event, were all emotionally at the summit of the highest big dipper they had ever experienced and about to begin the ride of a lifetime.

If You Build It They Will Come When Maver UK boss Phil Briscoe announced the Match This concept it raised a lot of eyebrows in the angling world, a payout bigger than Fish-O-Mania? A runner up event on the same day for another £5,000? No way, they said, impossible they cried but here I am less than 12 months later at Maver Larford Lakes, Stourport, just two hours to go to the start of the match that will provide the richest pay day in the history of angling. Match This was no one mans dream anymore, today was reality. The payout for the main event had...

    Talk Angling at The Glebe

With Talk Angling about to hit The Glebe, all the talk was about how much bait everyone was taking and if the TA curse would strike again, however with little or no wind and the sun in the sky at am things looked favorable, the motor was soon loaded and time to collect Silverfish1, before joining up with Dave1963 who was going to follow us to Mallory Park, where breakfasts had been arranged, despite directions from Carpcruncher123, we missed the gates to the track and had a little drive through the village before doubling back to this time find the entry, before entering the race track fortunately there was no cars on it so after a circuit done in record time for a...

2010 veterans world angling championship - Belgium

3rd FIPSed World Championships for Veterans, Watersportbaan, Gent, Belgium England’s Veterans angling team continued to impress when winning their third consecutive team medal when they were narrowly beaten into silver spot on the podium by host team Belgium in Gent from 10th – 11th July. The rowing course had been the venue for other England angling successes and was where the junior team won gold and later in 2008 Callum Dicks won the individual title. Manager, Joe Roberts and Dick Clegg were joined on the bank for a couple days by Mark Downes whose knowledge of the venue from his previous visits was invaluable. At the start of practice small roach and perch provided most of the weights but as the week progressed, quality bream began to make an appearance and team tactics had to be spot on for the weekend match. Eight countries lined the ba...

Talk Angling at 5 ways 4th July 2010

Would it be 5 Ways or or would it be 5 Winds, that was the question everyone was posing on the run up to this match, which was on a venue new to most of the anglers taking part, suffice to say that the TA curse worked its normal charm and the winds did blow a bit making presentation almost impossible at any distance, strangely it only seemed to take hold just after the all in and apart from a short spell it did not abate at all. As usual there was plenty of pre match banter along with the regulars from the Midlands, the boys from Bristol, Creepy, Lewisb1990, and coach poach made the long journey to fish this one, would Creepys paste do any damage, Lee Leeds Lad travelled down on Saturday to stop with match organiser Spongebob and help his self to Bobs tackle, beer, food etc, had his casting improved time would tell.
