See a spinnerbait in the top pic, is that your normal choice? What else do you catch on, lurewise?

I always struggled with spinnerbaits on canals, always found they dived a bit too deep for what I thought was a decent retrieve speed.

for the sheffield canal & fosdyke that spinner baits always have produced more pike for me thank normal lures i dont know why lol, i find a steady retreave gets them nearly everytime, i stay in the same spot & cast around covering as much water as i can from one place.

Azz

I would of said a low double looking at the pic. But it is hard to judge with pictures, it could be really wide. What scales you got?

rjays

About 3ft wide.....may have used the same scales I had my 9lb Roach on

ive caught a 22lb 12oz in the last few days off a canal nr Mkt Bosworth and i have to say it looked a little more stocky than those pictured here certainly fatter however its easy for me to say i have no pictures to prove my catch just a witness.

i would not of said mine was its weight looking at it, it didnt have a very broad head either but did look in perportion to its body.

nice pics any way mate. At least the catches are on file so to speak. no-one can argue that the pictured pike are decent canal pike at any weight claimed.

well done mate. Nice canal Pike.

mate you need to buy a quality set of scales. ie reubens or avons. them luggage scales ur using from argos just aint cutting it. theres no way on earth that pikes 22lb....(i could be wrong) but Ive saw pics of the lads on my syndicate with 15lb - 17lb pike and they look double the size of the jack ur holding. no disrespect.. anyway at least youcaught a few hey. fair play.

Come on lads give the guy a break, Lets face it we are all here for the same reason BECAUSE WE LOVE FISHING ! But yet all i've seen on this thread so far is bitching and moaning. I'm new here and it's a good job I'm used to forums ( I use a few not fishing related ) and if I was a newbie to forums then reading some of the comments would put me off posting.

Kelk some nice pike mate ! I think you might be better off holding them differently for photographs though ;) Holding them is the key to photographs you either do it wrong or do it right ( The best way is to have the whole fish on show ;) )

Paul,if a person posts pictures on here, they must expect comments from other members, some will be complimentary and some will not,I have had comments about my hair, beard, size, clothes and one member even called me an ugly beast,as far as these pics are concerned it has to be said for whatever reason, the biggest of the pike does not LOOK its claimed weight,I think thats what most are saying in thier own colourfull (they call it a bit of banter) way,it appears to me tha the Kelk has taken it in his stride, its often the case that if not done well a picture will not give a true reflection of the true size of a fish, but its something to take into consideration before you post a pic,I can think of a couple of forums where fish don"t look the given weight and the posters get serios abuse, that does NOT happen on this site so people should not be put off posting any comments or pictures.Regards Peter.

Here is hurricanes 22lb pike.

http://www.talkangling.co.uk/upload/members/hurricane-albums-pictures-picture2210-22_2.jpg

Here is yours.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/Kelk_SXi/Fishing/Pike2128lbsClose.jpg

Look at the difference in the size of the head/mouth, length and size of gill covers.

That fish in the last picture is just a double. Its a lovely fish, but no way is it 22lb.

What scales do you have?

To be honest with you Peter my post was mainly aimed at the comment which Aiden posted. I'm all for banter and having a laugh I'm a member of another forum which has over 15,000 active members which is much worse than here ;)

Its a fine line between banter and abbusive, offensive or threataning posts, none of wich are allowed and are dealt with by the moderators,we often get acused of being too PC when moderating postings,I can see the point you are making and it could have been worded better but it is a valid oppinion(as is yours)on any forum there will be differences of opinion,be it the best line, pole, box, hook, bait or whatever, threads do get out of hand and end up being locked or deleted but thats as a last resort,if anyone feels strongly about the content of a particular post or thread, then report it to admin/moderators and it will be investigated.Regards Peter.

To be fair to kelk, he does look like a big chap, and also you cant see the whole fish in the pic.

Look at the two 22lb pics again, and take an object like a thumb or finger to scale and compare it to the pelvic fins, and they don't look that far apart.

I think anyone that is saying that kelks 22lb'er isn't 22lb, should post a pic of thier own 20+ for comparison. I'm not saying it is 22, but when you compare it to peter's, it's doesn't look far off..

As you wish luke

This is a 13lb last winter
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/8137/13lbatwroot.jpg (http://img230.imageshack.us/i/13lbatwroot.jpg/)

And this is a 19lb last summer/autum

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/3742/19lb01.jpg (http://img262.imageshack.us/i/19lb01.jpg/)

Gave me a fright when i was fishing a foot out and when i struck it jumped out the water out the air in front of me

Fins aren't a very good way to compare fish. Take a look at this one:
http://www.talkangling.co.uk/upload/members/azz-albums-river_pike-picture3062-12lb_12oz_huge_tail_avon.jpg
It was only 12lb and its fins are huge.

A good way to compare a pike is the size of its head/mouth. Look at Reynolds fish and the one above and look at the size of the head.

Id say kenny rogers is a insult Peter, but I cant argue with them XD

To be fair though azz the head doesnt always show a good comparison. that 19lb above had a head like a wolf but my friends 19lb (his 2nd ever double) wasnt so big.

My point is, look at the head on both your 19lb fish, and look at the head on the supposed 22lb fish. You can tell the difference.

I get what you saying Azz, i had practicaly just got up and was'nt quite with it. But our (inc yours) fish were smaller weights yet twice the size.
