    Default Hello!

Hi!, New to the forum, My names Jordan, I'm 22 & I've been fishing with my Dad for years, only just this season caught my First Barbel after fishing for them for absolutely ages.

Thought Id add a quick question on to get it going haha, How long do maggots keep in their "shop bought" live state if left in the fridge? Im going out for another Barbel session with my friend on Friday but I wont be able to get to the fishing shop before I finish work, so I was going to purchase earlier?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to T/A Jordan
Congratulations on your 1st Barbel ,After catching that 1 you will want to catch them all the time !
Maggots will keep & least a week in the fridge in a box ,but dont put too many in the box
The way i keep mine is a lot Cleaner, i leave them in plastic Bags.
When you buy them ask the Shop to put them in pint bags add a little bit of Maize & suck all the Air out of the bag & tie a knot in the Bag .
Just take them home & put them in the bottom of the Fridge.
When you are going take them out of bag & place in a large box .Dont worry that they look Dead !
They are only kipping ,in about an hour they will all revive ,quick dusting of Maize they are as fresh as the day you bagged them
i have left them as long as 4 weeks
    where are you from

    Little Tip Jordan,
Keep them in FINE sawdust from pet shops, where maize blocks their pause up (they breath through there skin) sawdust does not.
Best o luck with your barbel fishing and welcome to the site.

Thanks! and also thanks for the advice, I will follow it soon as I've got to buy bait for this weekend. Im from South Glos. I used to fish the Avon a lot with my Dad for Barbel but never caught any, Did catch a few nice Chub though ( I think the Otters have had a field day on the Avon)

    I agree with Rick

The shop we get them from puts them in maize but if we have any left after our weekly Monday session with the charity I bring them home riddle them the following day and put them in sawdust. This keeps them clean and fresh as the day you bought them.

I am not in anyway contradicting what BIG COL is saying as I have never had them in bags we always put them in a two pint tub but only get 1 1/2 pints each time
