I think the benefits I found were that it stopped the hollow stuff flattening out completely and "ribboning" in the extreme cold. Drennan yellow and green and middy yellow and red used to do that to me.
Was undecided whether it added unnecessary weight or not but shortly after started using double Preston's slip (original) and prefer the double hands down.

Col, armor all and son of a gun were marketed alongside each other....probably the same stuff just different bottles. Turtle wax do their version as well.

Yes i can remember them both being sold side by side @ Halfords Son of a gun was their own label i believe
What doubles do you use in their Place & for what situations
Is there realy a difference between say a double 5or6 to a solid 10 or 12 IYO

    Why Dunk
Slip or lube makes Hollows Blister!!
a few yrs ago when Hollow elastics had just started to be used i used to go Fishing with a scientist that specialised in The treatment of RubberFor a Major Tyre Manufacturer for the Tyres used in Formula 1 Racing.
it was he who started me doing it i had a few go very dull & seemed to Dry out & started to noticably become less responsive
When i asked him why the Browning Lube would Trash the elastic he explained that the outer elastic was basicaly a light covering & the slip would react against the polymers & adhesives used
the inner core was the main component & could be kept in Tip top Condition by injecting with an oil of some type
We left it to him & a couple of weeks later he came back with 2 tops 1 had been injected with just enough Tyre feed to literaly pass through the elastic as soon as it started to seep out of the end that was enough
the other top was as it came & recieved no attention
we were told to use them as often as possible & see if there was a difference
After a fair time about a season 1 of them started to deteriate the other Lasted almost 3 seasons thats why i chose to take his advice
as you know from this site Pal i am not 1 for wasting money on Pretty Tackle or Gimmicks!
I would rather spend my money on Top Quality Tackle that will last yrs without replacing
The most important thing for Me is Good quality Bait & as much of it as i am allowed
I dont change anything just because others do it has to work For Me !!
Rattler has put a bit about Doubles above you post & i am interested in any benefits that may give over Single Solids because i personaly have decided to return to Solids this yr due to the expence of Doing @ least 30tops
we are all different my friend & all have our own opinions & that will never change !!
    Colin
